Alumni Office Meetings (5/20/20)

On Wednesday, Ella and I had the opportunity to meet with the entire Hawken Alumni Advancement Office. We spoke with Ms. Guzzi and Ms. Boucher about our project in the morning and Ms. Anderson and Mr. Mallett in the afternoon. Ms. Guzzi and Ms. Boucher are in charge of Alumni giving for Hawken and the Alumni Annual Fund. At the beginning of our conversation, Ella and I gave both Ms. Guzzi and Ms. Boucher information about our project and the intent behind it. Both of them were so moved and excited about our project that it brought tears to their eyes. For me, this moment proved that all the hard work we were doing and the reasoning behind it was worth it. After our brief introduction, we immediately began discussing Hawken Philanthropy and the successful endeavors of the alumni office. We learned a lot about Hawken’s work with fundraising events. I have a new founded respect and understanding of the hard work the entire Alumni Staff do for the Hawken Community.  Later in the day, Ella and I met with Ms. Anderson and Mr. Mallett from the Alumni office. Ms. Boucher and Mr. Mallett's role at Hawken focuses more on Alumni oriented activities and programs. Ella and I focused on discussing the project ideas we had to help the Alumni Office. We got phenomenal feedback from both Mr. Mallett and Ms. Boucher. Our meetings today gave us the opportunity to focus and direct our project completely. We have a clear idea of what are the most pressing projects and topics the board can work on. Ella and I have spoken with numerous professionals from Hawken and other high schools. As we continue our project, we are looking to speak with a variety of people from the Cleveland Foundation, the Eleanor and Kelvin Smith Foundation, and potential philanthropy oriented colleges.

  1. Zach, wow. You and Ella have accomplished so much in a short amount of time. Your blogs are well written and complete. I'm excited to hear about which projects you think next year's Hawken Philanthropy Board could focus on. I'm curious to learn more about the other trends that you found in the survey that you sent the alumni of different ages. Keep up the great work! - Mrs. Mullen
