Final Summary Post (06/04/20)
Creating
the Hawken Philanthropy Leadership Board has been a memorable and fantastic
project to work on. I am extremely excited to present my final presentation to
a variety of members within the Hawken community. Ella and I have worked dozens
of hours on our Hawken Project and establishing the Hawken Philanthropy
Leadership Board, so we are looking forward to presenting our findings to our
community. I am extremely proud of everything Ella and I were able to complete
especially during an unprecedented time like this. For tomorrow’s final
presentation, Ella and I spent many hours identifying the optimal presentation
format for information, creating the presentation, and practicing our
presenting skills. We begin the presentation by giving a general overview of a
variety of different topics and ideas. We think it is important that we lay the
proper foundation to present the problem we found, and the solution to the
problem. My 2020 Hawken Project has been a great experience and I have learned
a tremendous amount of information. I have learned about Hawken, how it
allocates its income, philanthropy from other high schools/colleges, how applications
are reviewed, and much more. Not only have I learned a lot, but I have also
matured throughout the course of our project. I can now easily have in depth
conversations with adults from all over the country. I have also conducted
research and analysis of surveys/statistics. Another area I have improved in was
my problem solving skills. For me, I was also able to work on time management
skills and consistency of work. This is something I can use throughout the rest
of my life. The work Ella and I have completed was for the sole purpose of
benefiting the board for next year. We wanted to ensure that the group of
students on the Hawken Philanthropy Leadership Board are successful in their future
endeavors. It has been a wonderful experience working with Mr. Biggar and Ms.
Mullen. I am extremely grateful for their guidance and feedback throughout the
course of our Hawken Project.
Zach, thank you for being so thoughtful with your blog entries! As I read about about your and Ella's progress, I felt (in a small way) that I have been part of your journey. You are absolutely correct. The skills that you learned during this process will last you a lifetime You will be able to apply your research analysis, time management, interviewing and problem solving skills throughout your college and professional career. I’m looking forward to seeing your presentation tomorrow at 9:00 am! - Mrs. Mullen
